Juny, a 52-year-old United States Air Force Colonel from Puerto Rico, discovered his love for long-distance running when he ran his first half marathon in March 2017. Since that day, he has completed 9 full marathons, 28 half marathons, and multiple short-distance races. Juny has completed marathons on six different continents: Air Force Marathon (Dayton, Ohio), Dubai, Kilimanjaro, Perth, Brasilia, and Barcelona, making the Antarctic Ice Marathon his seventh and final continent. He will dedicate this accomplishment to 7 Puerto Rican athletes he admires: Roberto Clemente, the first Latin American to be inducted into Baseball’s Hall of Fame; Felix “Tito” Trinidad, Boxing champion and Hall of Famer; Monica Puig, Puerto Rico’s first Olympic Gold medalist in tennis; Jasmine Camacho-Quinn, Women’s 100 meters hurdles Gold Medalist; Carlos Arroyo, Olympic Basketball player; Amanda Serrano, Puerto Rican Boxing legend; Jorge Luis “Peco” González, Puerto Rican Olympic runner. Juny is also aiming to become the first Puerto Rican male to join the 7 Continent Marathon Club by running in the interior of Antarctica, not on King George Island outside the Antarctic Circle.
