John began running about 15 years ago. At a friend’s birthday party, someone asked him what type of hobbies he had. Other than his career, he had none. So, he sought to run a half marathon and then a marathon on every continent. Antarctica will be his seventh. Along his global marathon journeys, some of the races he selected were based on where his family wanted to visit rather than where he necessarily wanted to run a race. In addition, he began serving as a runner for a group called Ainsley’s Angels, pushing severely disabled kids in races with a specially designed wheelchair. Seeing how the family of a child was inspired provided him motivation. For the parents of the children, this was the only time their child could shine as they never got to play volleyball or cheerleading or soccer or anything else. For the first time in their life they got to be a rockstar and John got to be a small part of it. One of John’s goals is to run a half marathon on every continent with both of his twin daughters. One of his daughters will be running with him in Antarctica. His marathons to date, on six continents, include: Rotorua New Zealand 2019; Luxenberg Night marathon 2011; New York City Marathon 2009; Marrakesh marathon 2015; Lima marathon 2015; Seoul marathon 2017.
