Lynn Bernot

Public record
Biography

Lynn discovered her passion for running in 10th grade, competing in track and cross-country throughout her time at Oberlin College (1973–1977). Thanks to the implementation of Title IX in 1972, she had the opportunity to compete in three national competitions during her collegiate years. She ran her first marathon while attending medical school at the University of Wisconsin and easily qualified for the Boston Marathon in 1982. The following year, she earned a spot in the first women’s Olympic Marathon Trials in 1984. Despite sustaining a serious hamstring injury just before the trials, Lynn made a strong comeback, winning the women’s race at the 1985 Portland Marathon. After a decades-long hiatus from competitive running, Lynn was encouraged by a friend to return to racing as she approached her 60th birthday. Inspired by her son Adam, who highlighted the Marathon Majors and the achievable qualifying time for the Berlin Marathon, Lynn has completed six marathons in the past five years. The upcoming London Marathon will mark the completion of her 6-Star Marathon Major challenge. Lynn is thrilled to be aging up to the 70–74 age group just two weeks before the race and looks forward to connecting with the Runbuk community!
